# What is Spacelab

Spacelab is the canvas where you build a space: wire inputs, models and edits together, test the flow, then publish it as a form anyone can run.

Last updated: 2026-10-05

**Key facts**

- Spacelab is Sloosh's node canvas for building image and video workflows: you wire inputs, prompts, models and edits together, then publish the flow as a space with a simple form.
- Spacelab's Run button runs the whole canvas and shows what one run costs before you press it, and each model node has its own Run for testing one step.
- Any Sloosh workspace can publish a Spacelab canvas as a space, and a published space gets a short `sloo.sh/s/...` link.
- A public Sloosh space published from Spacelab needs at least one sample output.
- Sharing a Spacelab canvas gives a read-only `sloo.sh/w/...` link, and signed-in viewers can make their own editable copy.

## What it is

Spacelab is a canvas for building image and video workflows. Each step is a node: a photo, a prompt, a model, an edit. You wire the nodes together, run the flow, and publish it as a [space](https://sloosh.ai/docs/spaces.md). A space is a simple form: someone uploads a photo, presses Generate and gets what your canvas makes.

_Inputs on the left become the space's form. Each model node has its own Run; Run at the bottom right runs the whole canvas and shows its cost._

## Who it's for

Anyone who makes the same kind of image or video over and over. You build the flow once. After that, you, your team or anyone you publish it for can run it from the form without opening the canvas.

## Studio, Spaces or Spacelab

- [Studio](https://sloosh.ai/docs/studio.md): one prompt, one model, one result. Use it to try an idea or make a one-off.
- [Spaces](https://sloosh.ai/docs/spaces.md): run a workflow someone already built. Fill in the form and press Generate.
- Spacelab: chain several steps, such as a prompt, a model and an upscale, into one repeatable flow. Use it to build a space.

## A 30-second example

Say every product photo needs a new scene and a sharper finish. On the canvas that's four nodes:

Canvas diagram: A Prompt and an Image Input named Product photo feed an Image Model, whose image goes to an Upscaler.

Nodes:

- `prompt`: Prompt. Inputs: none. Outputs: `text` (Prompt, text).
- `photo`: Product photo (Image Input). Inputs: none. Outputs: `image` (Image, image).
- `gen`: Image Model. Inputs: `prompt` (Prompt, text), `aspect_ratio` (Aspect ratio, setting), `reference_images__0` (Image 1, image). Outputs: `image` (Image, image), `images` (Images, image).
- `up`: Upscaler. Inputs: `image` (Image, image). Outputs: `image` (Result, image).

Wires (node.output -> node.input):

- prompt.text -> gen.prompt
- photo.image -> gen.reference_images__0
- gen.image -> up.image

1. Add an Image Input named Product photo, and a Prompt that describes the scene.
2. Wire both into an Image Model, and the Image Model into an Upscaler.
3. Press Run. The button shows what one run costs before you press it.
4. Publish. The space's form asks for one thing, the product photo, and returns the upscaled image.

## Start a canvas

Spacelab in the top bar opens a new, empty canvas. Start it any of these ways:

- Describe your idea. Type what the space should do in the box and Sloosh builds a first version of the canvas for you.
- Start from a template. Pick a ready-made canvas (Image generation, Model variety or Video generation) and change it from there. Templates is in the top-left toolbar once you have canvases of your own.
- Build it yourself. Press + in the bottom toolbar to add your first node, then wire the rest.
- Continue your work. Once you have canvases, your latest ones show under the idea box.

## Run it

Run, at the bottom right of the canvas, runs every node. It shows what one run costs; hover it to see how many credits you have. To test one step, use the Run button on a model node (it reads Run till here when the node feeds others). It runs only that node, with the latest results of the nodes wired into it. [How Spacelab works](https://sloosh.ai/docs/how-spacelab-works.md) explains running, wiring and what a space shows.

## Publish it as a space

Publish turns your canvas into a space with a simple form. It goes to your workspace. Tick Also publish to community to list it for everyone; a public space needs at least one sample output. Tick Hide canvas from people who use this space to stop others opening or remixing the canvas behind it. A published space gets a short `sloo.sh/s/...` link.

## Share the canvas

Share gives a read-only `sloo.sh/w/...` link to the canvas itself. Anyone with the link can see how it works and, once signed in, make their own editable copy. Stop sharing turns the link off.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Spacelab build a workflow from a text description?

Yes. On a new Spacelab canvas, type what the space should do in the idea box and Sloosh builds a first version of the canvas for you. You can then change any node, or start from a ready-made template such as Image generation, Model variety or Video generation.

### When should I use Spacelab instead of Sloosh Studio?

Use Spacelab when you make the same kind of image or video over and over and the job takes several steps, such as a prompt, a model and an upscale. Sloosh Studio suits one prompt, one model and one result. You build the flow once in Spacelab, then run it from a form.

### Do I need a paid plan to publish a space from Spacelab?

No, every Sloosh workspace can publish a Spacelab canvas as a space. The space goes to your workspace; tick Also publish to community to list it for everyone. [Plans and credits](https://sloosh.ai/docs/plans-and-credits.md) explains the plans.

### Can I stop people copying my Spacelab canvas?

Yes. When you publish from Spacelab, tick Hide canvas from people who use this space. Visitors can still run the space from its form, but they can't open the canvas behind it or remix it.

### Who can run a space I publish from Spacelab?

A space you publish from Spacelab goes to your workspace, so you and your team can run it from its form. Tick Also publish to community and it is listed for everyone. Nobody who runs it needs to open the canvas.
