# References

A reference shows a Sloosh model what words can't: your product, a person, a scene or a style. Give each one a job and name it in the prompt.

**Key facts**

- A reference in Sloosh is an image you attach so the model sees what words can't describe: your product, a person, a scene or a style.
- Sloosh image models take between 5 reference images (Ideogram 4.5) and 16 (the GPT Image models); the Nano Banana models take 14.
- Sloosh video models take up to 30 reference images on Seedance 2.5, while Kling 3.0, Kling 2.5, MiniMax H3, MiniMax H3 Max and Pruna P-Video 2 Pro take none and use frames instead.
- Some Sloosh video models take start and end frames or references, not both, and Studio closes the other option once you add one.

## Give each reference a job

- Product: the exact item to show. Say what must not change, such as colour, logo or shape.
- Person: who should appear.
- Scene: the place or background to use.
- Style: the look to copy, such as lighting, colour or mood.

Then name each one in the prompt, for example "the jacket in the first image".

**Example: four references**

```text
Put the jacket from the first image on the person in the second image. Use the street in the third image as the background. Match the colours of the fourth image.
```

Here, a product photo and a style image went into Nano Banana 2:

Reference 1: product: ![A pair of burgundy leather sneakers on a white background](https://sloosh.ai/docs/example-ref-product.webp)

->

Reference 2: style: ![A white sneaker bursting out of a block of ice, lit from above on a dark background](https://sloosh.ai/docs/example-ref-style.webp)

->

Result: ![The burgundy sneakers bursting out of a block of ice, in the second image's lighting](https://sloosh.ai/docs/example-ref-result.webp)

_The result keeps the sneakers from the first image and takes the scene, lighting and framing from the second. The prompt was only `Recreate this image in the same style, composition and lighting.`; naming each image's job, as above, makes the result more predictable._

## How many you can add

In Video mode each model sets its own limit, and Studio shows it when you add references. Some models take start and end frames or references, not both. Studio closes the other option once you add one.

## Where references come from

Upload them, paste them, drag them onto the page, pick them from your [Assets](https://sloosh.ai/docs/library.md), or reuse any result with Use as reference. See [Studio](https://sloosh.ai/docs/studio.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I keep my product looking the same in AI images?

Attach a photo of your product as a reference in Sloosh and say in the prompt what must not change, such as "Keep the bag's colour and stitching exactly as they are." Name it by position, "the bag in the first image", so the model knows which reference is the product.

### How do I refer to a reference image in a Sloosh prompt?

Most Sloosh models read references by position: "Image 1" is the first one you add, "Image 2" the second, and Studio keeps that order. Give each one a job, such as "the jacket in the first image" or "the street in the third image". Each model page says which way it reads references.

### Can I use an AI result as a reference for the next image in Sloosh?

Yes. Press Use as reference on any Sloosh result, or Reuse in its Details, to put it in the prompt box. Then ask for one change, such as a new angle or background, and say what stays the same so the model keeps everything else.

### What is the difference between a reference and a start frame in Sloosh?

A start frame in Sloosh is the picture a video begins on, and an end frame is the one it finishes on; you describe what happens in between. A reference only shows the model what to include, such as a product or a face. In Studio, add frames with Upload frames in the + menu.
